World of Drones Congress Comes to Asia-Pacific Region

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk of Queensland, Australia, has announced that Brisbane will host “the world’s first Asia-Pacific congress on drone technologies” this summer.

According to a press release from the Queensland government, the event will showcase the application of drones across key industry and government sectors in the Asia-Pacific region.

The World of Drones Congress will be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Aug. 31-Sept. 2. The event will be presented in four segments: conference, expo, tournament and outreach program.

“I am pleased my government will provide funding of [AUD] $250,000 for the congress, which would cover topics such as the new drone economy, safety, smart cities, emergency response, and environment and conservation,” says Palaszczuk.

Minister for Innovation Leeanne Enoch says there will also be a “Design a Drone” competition for students.

“The Design a Drone competition is a great way for students to get involved in this emerging billion-dollar industry. I’d encourage schools to take up this first-of-its-kind opportunity,” she says.

Palaszczuk adds, “This multidisciplinary conference will provide an ideal platform for business-matching, industry development and commercialization – positioning Queensland as an attractive investment destination.”
