An executive from Beavercreek, Ohio-based surveying and mapping company Woolpert Inc. will deliver a keynote at House Speaker John Boehner's 24th annual Eighth Congressional District Farm Forum.
On Saturday, March 21, Steve Phipps, Woolpert's chairman of the board of directors and energy practice leader, will speak at the Troy, Ohio, event. According to a blog from Boehner, Phipps has been with Woolpert for over 26 years and “has played a central role in developing the firm’s unmanned aerial system (UAS) strategy, a strategy that includes addressing the needs of precision agriculture right here in Ohio.”
Ohio’s Eighth Congressional District is one of the largest agricultural districts in the Ohio and boasts more than 6,000 farms. Each year, Rep. Boehner hosts Farm Forum to bring together experts from different sectors of the agriculture community for a discussion of issues impacting the industry.
Representatives from the NASA Science Mission Directorate, the Ohio/Indiana Unmanned Aircraft Systems Center, CropZilla and Beck’s Hybrids will also be on the panel. Jim Zehringer, director of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, will serve as moderator.
In December, Woolpert was granted Federal Aviation Administration approval to commercially operate UAS for precision aerial surveying. The company said the exemption marked a significant milestone for the state of Ohio, which has been making strides in developing training centers, technologies, data-processing techniques and advanced applications related to UAS.
