Canadian officials are investigating incidents in which an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flew near Vancouver International Airport and over Vancouver Harbour, which hosts commercial floatplane operations.
Transport Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police became aware of the flights via videos posted on YouTube by a user named Quadrotor Dragonfly, according to an article by The Vancouver Sun. Other videos posted under the same username show the UAV flying all over Vancouver. The agencies are attempting to identify the individual.
One video, which was posted on Nov. 4, 2013, depicts a UAV photographing a commercial passenger jet as it prepared to land.
In addition, the publication notes that in March of last year, a radio-controlled helicopter came dangerously close to another commercial passenger jet on arrival, risking collision. There is no indication that Quadrotor Dragonfly was involved in this particular incident.
