Skycatch, a provider of a drone platform for commercial logistics, is one of the top 10 finalists of the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC), in which more than 2,000 applicants from 100 countries competed.
Through XTC, launched by MaiTai Global, entrepreneurs enter for a chance to present live on stage at consumer electronics show International CES, to pitch Sir Richard Branson, and to receive key infrastructure and investment.
According to Skycatch‘s website, it offers a “fully autonomous aerial data capture solution” for fields such as agriculture, construction, mining and solar.
The top three winners will pitch drone advocate Branson on his private island, Necker, in the British Virgin Islands. Branson, the billionaire business mogul and founder of the Virgin Group, recently invested in drone company 3D Robotics, which he also hired to capture an aerial photo spread of his island.
Along with the opportunity to present on stage at CES in Las Vegas, the top 10 receive $2,500 in Amazon Web Services Promotional Credit and $2,000 per month in hosting for 12 months from Rackspace.
The challenge at CES is scheduled for Jan. 8.
As announced in September, CES is also featuring an Unmanned Systems Marketplace, which will highlight the burgeoning technology of unmanned aerial vehicles.
