Paper-Airplane Drone to Officially Take Flight Soon

It was reported in June that a paper airplane had been transformed into a functioning unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Now, the product from PowerUp Toys is officially launching in America.

Dubbed the PowerUp 3.0, the average origami paper plane becomes a paper drone that is controlled through Bluetooth Smart Technology and an app for iPhone and Android devices.

This summer, the device will take to the skies from July 28 to Aug. 3 in Oshkosh, Wis., at the EAA AirVenture Air Show. During the air show, Shai Goitein, inventor and president of PowerUp Toys, will be available for press opportunities and interviews at the PowerUp Toys Booth. The product will be available at Oshkosh for $50, the PowerUp 2.0 for $20 and a package of PowerUp templates for $10.

PowerUp 3.0 generated over $1.2 million on Kickstarter and became one of the top-funded programs in the flight category, PowerUp Toys says.

The aircraft is currently being shipped to all Kickstarter backers and will be flying into retail in the fall.

Footage of the UAV can be found here.
