College of DuPage (COD), a community college based out of Glen Ellyn, Ill., is rolling out a new unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) camp for high school students.
The camp, offered through the college’s Continuing Education Program and Homeland Security Training Institute, is being held Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the college’s Glen Ellyn campus.
According to COD, students entering grades 9-12 will learn the basics of operating consumer drones. This includes business uses, air traffic control airspace, federal rules, flight control, tactical operations and dealing with weather conditions. During the final hour of the all-day class, students will be able to test their skills in a UAV challenge, the college says.
Funding for the class is available on a first-come, first-served basis to qualifying families through the COD Continuing Education’s Youth Leadership Scholarship.
