UAViate, a drone operations and consultancy firm based in Hampshire, U.K., has announced it is providing drone consulting services for the production of an upcoming Hollywood film.
The company says it is currently on the set of the action movie Criminal, which is set for release in 2015 and features stars such as Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner. James Hervey, senior drone consultant of UAViate, says the project is “one of the most exciting ventures” the company has been a part of.
Companies that don’t have drone flying experience or staff members knowledgeable in aviation safety and drone legislation enlist help to ensure they stay within the law whilst using the technology, UAViate explains. The company, which was hired by Cloud 12 for this job, offers consulting services for both drone pilot and non-flying organizations looking to use the technology.
‘It can be a difficult, time consuming operation. Organizations need to log everything, including battery charging, training, safety procedures and maintenance,” Hervey adds. “Our consultancy service not only allows companies to hire our aircraft equipment and pilots, we can also set them up with their very own airborne service.”
The U.K.'s Civil Aviation Authority provides a list of over 350 companies with permission to fly UAS for different types of commercial purposes. In September, the Federal Aviation Administration gave the green light for several U.S. companies to operate UAS in film production.
