NTIA Meeting Next Month to Discuss UAS Privacy Best Practices

By Betsy Lillian · July 13, 2015

1328_drone_3.18.2014 NTIA Meeting Next Month to Discuss UAS Privacy Best PracticesAs part of its multistakeholder process to develop best practices for privacy, transparency and accountability issues regarding the commercial and private use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) says it will convene meetings next month.

The first meeting will be held on Aug. 3. The following will be on Sept. 24, Oct. 21 and Nov. 20 from 1 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST in the boardroom at the American Institute of Architects on 1735 New York Ave. N.W. in Washington, D.C.

In a Presidential Memorandum released in February, the White House called on NTIA to convene stakeholders to develop these privacy best practices related to the commercial use of UAS in national airspace. NTIA then invited the public to submit suggestions concerning the structure of the multistakeholder engagement and the substantive issues the stakeholders would discuss.

The meetings, which will be webcast, will be open to the public and the press, says NTIA.
