An anonymous donor recently gifted a new DJI Mavic Pro drone to an Austin, Texas-area high school’s audio/visual (A/V) and journalism programs.

According to an announcement from the Pflugerville Independent School District, Pflugerville High School received the donation through the Pflugerville Education Foundation, an independent nonprofit that provides grants to “help develop, implement and sustain new teaching strategies, innovative ideas, and other initiatives to enhance instruction and educational opportunities.”

“This gift will increase our students’ technology and employability skills,” says PHS instructor David Robb, leader of the school’s A/V and journalism programs, via the district’s announcement.

He adds that “teaching students to be responsible producers and consumers of media,” including understanding all regulations for the use of the technology, will be key to the new drone curriculum.

Unveiled by DJI in September 2016, the $999 Mavic Pro is a foldable, portable unmanned aircraft system with a 4K, 12-megapixel camera.
