After four men fled the scene of a middle-of-the-night traffic stop in North Dakota, police officers deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to hunt them down.
According to a report from Valley News Live, the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office was pulling over four men in a pickup truck around 2:15 a.m. on Sept. 28.
The men, who now have charges ranging from DUI to refusing to halt, ended up running away through a field but were located in the dark with the UAV after a police dog could not get the job done.
Motherboard identifies the UAV as a Qube from AeroVironment, which describes the aircraft in a press release as a small UAS – small enough to fit in the trunk of a car – tailored to law enforcement, first response and other public safety missions. The system can be unpacked, assembled and ready for flight in less than five minutes, the company says.
