The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has deployed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to deliver government documents in Dubai. The UAE announced plans for delivery drones in February.
The UAV transferred documents from the government's Bur Dubai office to Deira in three minutes as part of a six-month pilot program, according to an article by ArabianBusiness.com. The white, four-rotor aircraft is emblazoned with the UAE flag and includes a compartment that can carry small parcels.
In order to confirm that deliveries are made to the proper recipients, the drone is equipped with fingerprint- and eye-recognition technology.
Eventually, the UAE plans to deliver identity cards, driver's licenses and other permits by drone. UAVs will also be employed for traffic monitoring and geographic surveys.
