FAA Offers Study Guide for Commercial UAS Operator Test

Want to prepare for your upcoming remote pilot certificate exam? The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has compiled a list of sample questions to be used as a study guide for future commercial drone operators.

The FAA says the full Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) test will comprise 60 questions and will be available to take once Part 107, the final rulemaking for commercial unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), goes into effect on Aug. 29.

In the meantime, the agency is offering 40 questions that will not necessarily appear on the UAG test but can be used as studying material.

The test, as well as other supplemental documents pertaining to the test, can be found on the FAA’s website here.

  1. The questions just being one certain part of the referenced section, are we to look at all references and study the entire content of each? That is a ton of material… Is that how we are supposed to use these questions as a guide? Then tracking down the actual section on the site, couldn’t there be a compiled list of the sections to study the material in specifics? What am I missing here? It seems to be hide and go seek.

    • Carl – they don’t make it easy for you! There is a more detailed outline of exactly what will be covered on the exam. Can be found here: faa.gov/training_testing/testing/acs/media/uas_acs.pdf.

Still a lot of stuff to sift through if you are going it on your own to study (aka the free way)…but it can be done! Hope that is helpful. Let me know if you need more info/help.

I tried your link of what will be covered in the exam and it came up “Page Not Found”

  2. faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/media/remote_pilot_study_guide.pdf

Make sure to add W W W . to the beginning of the link… wont let me post it here 😉

The Study Guide has been released… Hope it helps… It narrows things down a ton (87 pgs) But still references other materials in the text.
