Washington Prison Provides Drone Education for Inmates

In an effort to prepare inmates for future careers in aviation and unmanned systems, a corrections center in Washington State is offering education on drone operations.

KREM reports that the Airway Heights Corrections Center, a state prison for men in Spokane County, offers its inmates an “Aerospace Composites” class, taught in partnership with local Spokane Community College.

The course, which has been incorporating drone education for the past couple of years, offers inmates “entry-level skills into what can be living-wage jobs,” Mike Hunley, who teaches the program, told KREM.

He added that he sees the class as an “opportunity for transformation” for them.
