Frost & Sullivan, a global industry analyst and consulting firm, has recognized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology investor Motorola Solutions and LiDAR sensor provider Velodyne.
Motorola Solutions, which this month invested in CyPhy Works – a developer of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles – was awarded Frost & Sullivan's 2015 European Critical Communications Competitive Strategy Innovation and Leadership Award.
The firm cited some of Motorola Solutions’ recent investments in its smart public safety portfolio, including that of CyPhy Works.
“Three technology providers, all at the forefront of the transformation of the public safety sector, were considered for this award, with Motorola Solutions scoring consistently higher overall,” says Sheridan Nye, senior analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “We believe Motorola Solutions is making the market-leading investments in strategy and innovation that are needed to bring the ‘smart public safety’ market to fruition.”
Frost & Sullivan also honored Velodyne LiDAR with the 2015 North American Automotive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) Sensors Product Leadership Award.
The firm lauded Velodyne’s VLP-16 LiDAR Puck, a 16-channel, real-time, 3D LiDAR sensor for UAVs and other robotics applications. “Frost & Sullivan feels that Velodyne has developed the right product at the right price, giving them a critical competitive advantage in the market,” according to Frost & Sullivan’s report issued by its Best Practices Research Group.
“As vehicles become more and more autonomous, companies that can bridge the gap between cost and quality will become the industry's 'preferred vendors,'” the report adds. “Despite the current market being in a nascent stage, nine out of 10 [original equipment manufacturers] use a Velodyne sensor, giving clear evidence of the company's excellent reputation in the industry.”
