After a Bullmastiff puppy fell roughly 40 feet down a rocky bank in southwestern Oregon, a fire department put its unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to use as part of the successful rescue.
According to coverage from KTVL News10, the Jackson County Fire District 3 department deployed its DJI Phantom model to oversee the rescuers, who had to rappel down the bank into the river area and hoist the injured dog back up to its owners. The firefighters were able to watch the process from the UAV’s ground control station.
The report says this deployment marked the first time the aircraft was used by the fire department, which notes the device was “very valuable” during the rescue.
