UAV Helping to Film Winter Olympics


An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is filming snowboard and ski jump competitions at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

Olympic Broadcasting Services, the provider of the official world feed for the events, is using the UAV because the aircraft offers more flexibility than a crane or helicopter, according to an article on ABC News.

In order to employ the UAV, Olympic Broadcasting Services was required to file a flight plan with the Russian civil aviation authority and obtain permission from local police and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation.
