The winners of Dronestagram's 2015 drone photography contest – for which there were 5,000 submissions – have been announced.
Dronestagram, an online source of aerial drone photography, says it based the decisions on the photos' ‘creativity and photographic quality.’ Ken Geiger and Jean-Pierre Vrignaud, National Geographic’s photographer and editor-in-chief, respectively, were also judges.
For the Places category, the winner was Ricardo Matiello for “Above the mist,” an aerial view of buildings surrounded by fog in Brazil. First place in the Nature category went to tahitiflyshoot for a photo of snorkelers and sharks in French Polynesian waters.
The winners’ prizes included a feature on National Geographic’s website and in the French edition of the magazine, as well as a Parrot Bebop drone.
For the Dronies (a selfie taken by a drone) category, FlyovermediaCy’s shot of a group of Waldo look-alikes in Cyprus was declared the winner, who received a Hexo+ drone.
All of the photos, including those for second and third places, can be found here.
Prize sponsors were National Geographic, Kodak, Parrot, GoPro, Hexo+, Picanova, Hobbico and Adobe.
