New Hampshire DOT Brings in sUAS for Routine Bridge Inspection

As part of a routine bridge inspection, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) will be supplementing imagery by using a small unmanned aircraft system (sUAS).

According to an announcement from the NHDOT, the inspection will take place at the Vilas Bridge over the Connecticut River in Walpole, N.H./Bellows Falls, Vt.

Built in 1930, the Vilas Bridge has been closed to traffic since 2009. The drone-based inspection will assist the NHDOT in planning for a potential future project, according to the department.

The operation is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, but could be delayed until the following week depending on the weather conditions. There will be no impact to traffic, the department notes.
