Ashland, Ore.-based Mountain High Aviation LLC (MHA) recently received a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) commercial exemption to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for a number of applications.
The Aviation and Aerospace Practice Group of Los Angeles-based law firm Buchalter Nemer was responsible for securing MHA's exemption, which authorizes the use of the DJI S-1000, DJI Phantom 2, RIEGL RiCOPTER and ARF-MikroKopter OktoXL.
MHA, a technology company that provides a range of remote sensing and aviation solutions, was represented by attorney Paul Fraidenburgh in Buchalter’s Orange County, Calif., office.
According to the FAA, the exemption covers the following industries: aerial surveying, remote sensing, precision agriculture, aerial filmmaking and photography, public entity support operations, utility system inspections and patrolling, construction site inspection and monitoring, wildlife and forestry monitoring, educational and research operations, flare stack inspection, and pipeline inspection and patrolling
Buchalter says the RIEGL RiCOPTER is the first commercially available, turnkey, lightweight UAV solution ever to employ survey-grade LiDAR instrumentation.
