The City of Key West, Fla., has received a donated drone from an attorney and co-founder of law firm Grossman, Roth, Yaffa and Cohen, based in Coral Gables, Fla.
On Monday, Stuart Grossman presented the city’s fire and police departments with the drone. Grossman is also funding training for an operator from each department, the city says.
The city explains that Grossman has seen the important role unmanned aircraft systems have been playing in other communities and felt Key West was in need of one. In addition, Grossman has long been a homeowner in Key West, so his donation was a way to give back to the community, according to the city.
According to a FLKeysNews report, the DJI Phantom 4 was given after the firm’s legal team used the same model as part of an investigation in which a client was awarded $10.75 million after having been paralyzed at a resort. Fire marshal Alan Averette reportedly noticed the aircraft during the investigation and was impressed by it.
