In order to allow unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operators to charge their vehicles during flight, a team has created a hybrid power plant that mounts to a UAV's frame and plugs into the battery.
The equipment, called MotoGen, lets users add a small amount of fuel to the tank in order for the UAV's battery to recharge while the aircraft is in flight, creator Mark Lelong and his team explain in a release.
The UAVs operate the same way they would without the system in place, but when the battery's output starts to drop to a low level, MotoGen will kick in.
The team says it has completed the research and development portion of the product and is looking for funding to produce it on a large scale.
