Hovering Drone Disrupts Longhorns Football Game

Hovering Drone Disrupts Longhorns Football GameCollege football season has kicked off, but for one university, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) made an unwelcome appearance.

According to a report from the American-Statesman, a UAV was caught hovering inside and near the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium of the University of Texas Austin on Saturday before it made a landing on the street outside.

Police noticed the UAV during the Longhorns vs. University of North Texas game and brought in the operator, a student at UT, for questioning. Police then let the operator go but kept the UAV in custody.

Recently, the same type of incident occurred at a professional football game in Charlotte, N.C.

Some of those who have commented on the American-Statesman article regard the UT police as “unprepared in how to deal with this issue” and do not believe they were justified to ‘confiscate [the operator's] property.’ One comment even suggests that many spectators were concerned the vehicle was even a bomb.
