SOAR Oregon, a state-funded nonprofit dedicated to fostering growth in Oregon’s unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry, is hosting what it says is the state’s first UAS summit and expo.
Scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 10, at the Riverhouse Convention Center in Bend, the free event will focus on emerging trends and technologies shaping the drone industry in Oregon. SOAR says the event also offers exhibit space and sponsorship opportunities.
The inaugural summit will also feature commentary from the following list of speakers:
- U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore.;
- Oregon State Sen. Betsy Johnson, R-District 16;
- Mark Peters of Oregon State University;
- Chris Proudlove of Global Aerospace Inc.;
- Chris Cummings of Business Oregon;
- Zach Lovering, Vahana project executive for A^3 by Airbus; and
- Herve Hilaire, Vahana project manager for A^3 by Airbus.
Vahana is a a self-piloted electric aircraft project from A^3 by Airbus; it is currently undergoing testing at Oregon’s UAS range in Pendleton.
“Oregon UAS Summit & Expo is an exciting opportunity to learn about the latest UAS storylines coming out of our state and for industry-related suppliers to network,” states Earl Bowerman, executive director of SOAR. “UAV manufacturers, regional business leaders, research institutions and test range operators will all be gathered in one place to offer economic insight, technology updates and other topics impacting Oregon’s rapidly growing UAS industry.”
The event kicks off Wednesday, Aug. 9, with an evening reception, followed by the daylong summit and expo on Thursday, Aug. 10. Registration for the event closes Aug. 5.
