Acend Inc., an insurance and technology company based in Boston, has appointed Christopher Dean, formerly co-founder and president of drone technology provider PrecisionHawk, CEO of the company.
Acend says it is building an insurance and risk platform for autonomous vehicles, including cars, drones and other robots. Acend’s wholly owned subsidiary, Acend Insurance Solutions LLC, is a licensed producer nationwide. The first of several products to launch is DroneInsurance.com, which will be released in full this summer in the U.S.
From PrecisionHawk’s inception in 2010, Dean’s efforts were critical in the development of the company’s products and rapid growth across the globe, says Ascend.
“Chris is a talented business executive with a great track record in building and scaling a technology company,” comments Steve Rabbitt, Acend’s investor and co-founder. “With his strong product vision, team-building and deal-making skills, Acend is well positioned to capitalize on the large market opportunity around the intersection of insurance and autonomous vehicles.”
“I am excited to join the Acend team. It is a great group of operators, partners and investors,” says Dean. “Assessing risk around autonomous vehicles is a very complex challenge but an extremely important one for the industry to grow. Underlying risk variables for insurers, manufacturers and operators are changing, and Acend will be in the middle of that transformation.”
