George Yan, Microsoft China’s former vice president and general manager of marketing and operations, has joined unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) company EHANG as its chief operating officer (COO) and co-founder.
According to EHANG, he will be responsible for the operations and management of EHANG worldwide. With Yan in his new position, EHANG says is positioned to expand its global operations in terms of sales, partners and post-sale services. The company, known for its Ghost drone series, raised $10 million in funding in December 2014 and $42 million last August.
Yan joined Microsoft in 2000 and served as lead project manager, group program manager and product unit manager for the Windows, Windows Server and Bing teams.
Starting in 2011, Yan served as head of the cloud and enterprise business of Microsoft China and was responsible for building a new operating and development strategy for Microsoft Azure in China. In 2014, George served as Microsoft’s vice president and general manager of marketing and operations in Greater China.
“It is a new milestone in my career to join EHANG, a Chinese company committed to ushering in the next wave of revolutionary technology,” states Yan. “I will lead EHANG into the next accelerated development stage and strive to make EHANG a well-known and trusted brand around the world.”
