Following FAA Letter, High School Abandons Drone Plans

A group of high-school students who recently used an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to stream live footage of their school's football game are no longer carrying on with the practice, due to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warning.

As reported last month, the computer-programming club at Green Hope High in Cary, N.C., flew a DJI Phantom UAV 100 feet over a football game to capture live aerial footage, which could then be viewed on fans’ phones.

They planned to give it another go at a future game, but they have now received a letter from the FAA, which has “questions” about the operations, according to coverage from newsobserver.com.

The footage of the school’s football game via drone can still be viewed here.
