FlatHat Labs, a new brand by camera accessory company ExpoImaging Inc., has introduced portable, collapsible drone pads and lighting kits.
The patent-pending FlatHat 32-inch collapsible drone pad is constructed from heavy-duty fabric mounted to a flexible steel frame. Weighing 1 lb., 2 oz (500g), the drone pad collapses to one-third of its expanded size and can be stored in an included bag that fits into a backpack or laptop sleeve. The company says the 32-inch pad is ideal for consumer drones such as the DJI Phantom series, the DJI Inspire, the 3DR Solo or the Parrot Bebop.
The drone pad’s bold landing pattern provides an easy-to-see target, and the pad can act as a designated return-home location for drones with that capability. Also included are three aluminum ground stakes that can be used to help secure it in windy conditions.
The FlatHat 16-inch collapsible drone pad is designed for mini or nano drones. Weighing just 3.5 oz., the pad collapses and stores in a 6-inch bag. This model also includes a high-visibility landing target.
In addition, ice blue and gamma green FlatHat lighting kits are available for both drone pads. The kits incorporate flexible light wires that can attach to the perimeter of the drone pads to allow for better visibility in low-light flying conditions. The flexible light wire is cool to the touch and is also water-resistant. The included four-way light controller (off/constant/pulse/strobe) is powered by two AA batteries.
“Our first FlatHat products are portable drone pads that help to protect sensitive drone cameras and sensors from rotor wash kicking up dust and debris,” explains Erik Sowder, CEO of ExpoImaging. “The bold patterns enhance the drone flying experience and help to develop piloting skills by providing an easily identifiable target area for take-off and landing.”
