Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are waiting in the wings if the mudslide disaster in Oso, Wash., worsens.
Insitu, a UAV manufacturer owned by Boeing and based in Bingen, Wash., has drones at the ready that could be deployed to monitor the area surrounding the mudslide, according to an article by GeekWire.
As the UAVs are equipped with infrared cameras, they could assist emergency workers around the clock.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Federal Emergency Management Agency have both signed off on the potential UAV operation.
