Representatives from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) and The Nature Conservancy have joined the advisory board of the Drone World Expo.
The event's advisory board is currently working to shape the program of the two-day conference, which will take place Nov. 17-18 at the San Jose, Calif., Convention Center.
Joining are Stephanie Spear, commercial regulatory policy representative for NAR, and Matt Merrifield, chief technology officer of the California chapter of The Nature Conservancy.
Spear handles regulatory issues that impact NAR’s commercial members. She joined the Realtors after having worked at both the American Institute of Architects and the National Association of Home Builders.
At The Nature Conservancy, Merrifield leads a team of professionals who apply geospatial information, technology and design to pressing conservation science issues in California. Trained as a geographic information scientist, he focuses on disruptive technologies (e.g., smartphones and unmanned aerial vehicles) that can have big impacts in social-ecological systems.
The recently proposed rules from the Federal Aviation Administration for the commercial use of drones will be broadly discussed at the event, and the advisory board has plans to offer thought leadership on the impact of the rules on commercial drone users through panel discussions, interactive workshops and case studies.
