Entries are now being accepted for the inaugural Bay Area Drone Film Festival, taking place on Sunday, Feb. 28, in Santa Clara, Calif.
The mission of the festival is to promote drone education and entertainment to the public, as well as increase safety awareness for drone videographers, photographers and enthusiasts, according to Clay M. Coleman, organizer and director of the festival, who is a 25-year-veteran air traffic controller with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a lifelong photographer and an avid drone enthusiast.
The live show will screen 15-20 short videos. Winners will be awarded prizes valued at more than $10,000, including drone kits, accessories, drone lessons and more. Sponsors of the festival include MultiCopter Warehouse, Yuneec Electric Aviation, KnowBeforeYouFly.org and DARTdrones.
At least 50% of the footage in each entry must have been shot using a drone. Video and photographs can be entered through Jan. 24. Early-bird entry fees are offered before Dec. 15.
The cost to enter ranges from $10 to $25, but there is a 20% discount if the filmmaker watches a drone safety video. An entry will be disqualified from the film festival if it’s clear that FAA guidelines were not followed in its creation.
