Drone Ban Enacted in Cleveland for Republican Convention

A strict no-drone zone will be put in place for the upcoming 2016 Republican National Convention (RNC) in Cleveland and surrounding area.

According to a release from the Cleveland 2016 Host Committee, events and activities encompassing the designated National Special Security Event will take place Sunday, July 17 through Thursday, July 21.

The committee says security and transportation plans have been developed by a partnership of local, state and federal law enforcement and public safety agencies.

Included in these rules is a prohibition of all unmanned aircraft, including radio-controlled model aircraft, in Cleveland and surrounding communities (even though the Republican National Convention Complex consists of only the Quicken Loans Arena, Progressive Field and the Huntington Convention Center).

Anyone flying a drone within the restricted areas may be subject to civil and criminal charges, the committee warns.
