Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will not be allowed to join in the festivities during this year's Independence Day celebration on the Boston Esplanade.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, all UAV operations in the vicinity of the Boston Esplanade will be illegal on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

The Federal Aviation Administration will restrict airspace access around Fenway Park starting one hour before each Red Sox game begins and ending one hour after each game ends, says the state police. This Total Flight Restriction includes all remote controlled and unmanned aircraft.

Air traffic control at Logan Airport, which controls the airspace within eight nautical miles from the airport, will be monitoring the area and will not allow any UAV operation on these dates. The Massachusetts State Police says that anyone who is found violating these rules may be charged on the federal or state level.
