A football game at a Cary, N.C., high school was recently broadcast in a live stream for fans, thanks to the work of students and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Green Hope High's computer-programming club operated a DJI Phantom UAV 100 feet over the Oct. 3 football game to capture aerial footage, which could then be viewed on spectators’ phones, according to a USA Today report.

The students, using an iPhone app to fly it, managed all operations of the aircraft, including switching the batteries and halting it when necessary on the rainy and windy night.

Christopher Gaw, a teacher who manages the computer-programming team, told USA Today that the operation was “gutsy.” However, the report says, they plan to give it another go at a game next month.

The stream, which contains three hours of footage, can be seen here. Read the complete USA Today article here.
