Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) stakeholders from throughout Florida gathered this week in Melbourne, Fla., to explore trends in drone adoption and ways to help guide the impact of UAS integration across the state.

UAS operators and industry stakeholders from business, government and academia engaged in the “Florida UAS Summit,” hosted by Harris Corp. and the Florida Institute of Technology. Summit discussions included industry trends and drivers, the regulatory environment, and opportunities for UAS test beds in Florida.

Attendees also participated in workshop discussions and demonstrations and explored drone technology on display at Harris’ 2017 Technology Expo, held throughout the week at the company’s global innovation center.

“Unmanned aircraft systems are a transformative technology that is reshaping many markets, including agriculture, railroads, utilities and public safety – to name just a few,” says George Kirov, vice president and general manager of commercial UAS solutions at Harris Electronic Systems. “We are at a critical juncture in the industry. UAS-related investments, business revenue and job creation are surging, and these trends are expected to continue for decades.”

Earlier this week, Harris Corp. announced a new initiative to develop an infrastructure network for drone operations taking place beyond the visual line of sight of the pilot.
