RAN-DEE, a Reno, Nev.-based company in the service solution industry, has developed what it calls the Cow Copter, an unmanned aerial system (UAS) for farmers or ranchers.
With a mission of finding, tracking and saving livestock, the company says, it has utilized proprietary software and imaging cameras to create the solution, which is produced with off-the-shelf parts and 3D printing.
RAN-DEE uses a radio-frequency identification tagging system for each herd animal. The Cow Copter can follow and locate the animal and provide real-time information to the herder to prevent lost animals, as well as save time and money.
The company says it is using a black box on the UAS to record flight data and analyze proficiency and alleviate safety concerns.
RAN-DEE will be exhibiting the Cow Copter at American Farm Bureau Federation’s 2015 Annual Convention and IDEAg Trade show, held Jan. 9-14 in San Diego.
