The rescue squad of Berkeley County, S.C., has received an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) from local drone services provider SkyView Aerial Solutions.

According to a news post from the Berkeley County Rescue Squad, SkyView Aerial Solutions volunteered its rescue and aerial-documentation services last summer after an F-16 and Cessna mid-air plane crash. The company says in a Facebook post that its UAV work is now being showcased at an American Academy of Forensic Science meeting.

Bill Salisbury, the squad’s rescue chief, says the new drone “will go a very long way to save lives in Berkeley County.”

The volunteer squad, which says it comprises “30 active members who come from all walks of life,” notes the local sheriff’s office will also be using the aircraft.
