Police Warn No UAVs at Las Vegas Strip on New Year’s Eve

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is reminding the community that it will be looking for violators flying unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) along the Las Vegas Strip during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

According to a notice from the police department, because the strip is within five miles of McCarran International Airport, drone operations are prohibited without the airport authority’s permission.

The LVMPD says an officer who observes a UAV flying along the strip will immediately have the operator secure the UAV. If the operator fails to do this, the officer may impound the UAV, and the operator may face further criminal charges.

“Please help us in making this a fun and safe New Year’s Eve celebration for all of those in attendance,” the department says in its notice.
