The Lincolnshire Police are crediting an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) with assisting the rescue of two teenage boys stuck on a rooftop in Gainsborough, a town in Lincolnshire, England.
According to a release from the police, emergency services were called to the Market Place at 9:15 a.m. on Monday after a shop manager reported hearing persons on the roof.
The officers were assisted by local drone company Kurnia Aerial Photography, which deployed a UAS to identify the location of the boys on the roof. The police’s photo shows a DJI Inspire 1 aircraft.
“We are immensely grateful to Michael, Kurnia’s director, for his assistance,” comments Phil Vickers, chief inspector. “The rooftops in the town center are a maze, but the images captured by the drone allowed us to locate the teenagers and meant that officers did not have to put themselves at risk by accessing the roof.”
The Lincolnshire Police say the teenagers were brought safely to the ground around two hours later via aerial ladder platform from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue.
