SOAR Oregon, a nonprofit group dedicated to advancing the unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) industry in Oregon, says it has awarded a grant to Decavo LLC for the advanced engineering and development of UAS technologies.

Decavo, based in Hood River, Ore., is a manufacturer of carbon fiber composites for industries including aerospace, general aviation, robotics and medicine.

“SOAR is extremely excited to partner with Decavo on this project,” comments Chuck Allen, executive director of SOAR Oregon. “This is the first SOAR grant awarded to an Oregon UAS company for this biennium. We expect that this grant and others like it will help move the entire industry forward while furthering SOAR’s mission of creating jobs and enhancing economic development within the state.”

Phil Nies, CEO of Decavo, received the grant check from John Stevens, SOAR’s chief operations officer.

“We at Decavo are looking forward to working together with SOAR. This grant allows us to pursue a project which has the potential to generate significant benefit for Decavo and the Oregon UAS industry,” says Nies.
