Despite not being among the states designated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to research and test unmanned aerial systems (UAS), Ohio and Indiana will nevertheless operate their own UAS test sites.

The Columbus Dispatch says the two states will ‘seek ways of promoting more research and development to attract drone-related businesses.’

Undeterred by the FAA snub, the Ohio/Indiana UAS Center & Test Complex in Springfield, Ohio, will serve as a regional hub. The complex offers ‘seven test drone ranges in both states, providing sites where businesses, universities and researchers can test unmanned aircraft.’
