Nevada-based Robison Engineering Co. Inc. has been granted approval from the Carson City Airport Authority to conduct unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations two miles from the airport.
According to a report from the Reno Gazette-Journal, Robison Engineering will be doing “drone survey work at gravel pits” once every year. Realizing no threat to the safety of airplanes, the airport authority’s decision was unanimous.
Robison Engineering was given a commercial exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration in May for the use of a senseFly eBee RTK drone, weighing 1.6 lbs., for aerial mapping purposes. Per the blanket Certificate of Waiver or Authorization that accompanies a Section 333 exemption, the company will fly no higher than 200 feet in altitude.
