The Nevada Institute of Autonomous Systems, a state-sanctioned nonprofit organization, has chosen Silver Springs Airport in Lyon County as a test site for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Activities are expected to start in five or six months, according to an article by the Las Vegas Sun.

In addition to Silver Springs Airport, UAV test sites will be located in Stead, Boulder City, Desert Rock and Fallon.

In late December 2013, the Federal Aviation Administration selected Nevada as one of six national UAV test site operators.
