Montana State University Billings Extended Campus is launching a new drone program open to the public this spring.

According to Kevin Nemeth, director of the extended campus, the first class, called “Drones For Dummies,” will be suited for beginners. It will focus on the basics of drone techniques and related laws. A second class, “Droneography,” will be more advanced.

In the beginner class, participants will receive a Hubsun 107c+ drone with 2MP camera. The instructor, Aaron Wilson, is the founder of Aaron’s Drones of Montana, a subsidiary of Comtech Inc. The $189 class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 20.

The $149 “Droneography” class will focus on drone photography and videography and will be held 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on July 8. The instructor, Theodore Hampton, is an independent filmmaker and photographer.

“People in our community are already using drones for recreational and business purposes, and Extended Campus’ goal is to provide this enthusiastic community with the necessary tools to succeed,” says Nemeth.
