With the hope of expanding its mapping technology to include unmanned aerial systems (UAS), U.S.-based Sanborn Map Company Inc. has made a change in its executive team by promoting an industry veteran to the role of vice president of business development and sales.

Jason Caldwell, who has 16 years of experience at Sanborn, is moving from the firm's western region sales manager to the new role, where he will oversee the team of marketing and sales professionals, as well as the proposal process.

Caldwell notes that the company is “ramping up its [research and development] efforts, with a host of new technology potential on the horizon that will broaden [Sanborn’s] portfolio.” Part of this plan, the firm says, is aggressively pursuing the adoption of UAS.

Sanborn, which provides mapping solutions to customers worldwide, says it currently uses aerial and mobile LiDAR, aerial orthophotography, 3D modeling and visualization, oblique aerial imagery, indoor LiDAR mapping, UAS sales and services, and geospatial software development.
