College football season has kicked off, but for one university, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) made an unwelcome appearance.

According to a report from the American-Statesman, a UAV was caught hovering inside and near the Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium of the University of Texas Austin on Saturday before it made a landing on the street outside.

Police noticed the UAV during the Longhorns vs. University of North Texas game and brought in the operator, a student at UT, for questioning. Police then let the operator go but kept the UAV in custody.

Recently, the same type of incident occurred at a professional football game in Charlotte, N.C.

Some of those who have commented on the American-Statesman article regard the UT police as “unprepared in how to deal with this issue” and do not believe they were justified to ‘confiscate [the operator's] property.’ One comment even suggests that many spectators were concerned the vehicle was even a bomb.
