Scientists are looking at flying creatures for inspiration in improving the technology of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

According to a Live Science report, 14 different groups are conducting research of animals such as birds and insects for several types of UAVs in order for the vehicles to better adapt to certain conditions or terrains.

For example, some researchers created what they call the jumpglider UAV, which is able to bounce into motion with the use of a spring-like foot – similar to how, for example, a flying squirrel, snake or fish would jump.
