New Mexico State University (NMSU) deployed an unmanned aircraft system (UAS) to record video of the kickoff and pregame of NMSU’s football victory over the University New Mexico on Sept. 10.

According to a press release from NMSU, the game marked the first time in four years that NMSU beat the University of New Mexico in football.

NMSU’s Physical Science Laboratory obtained a Part 107 waiver from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the commercial flights, which provided UAS footage to NMSU’s AggieVison and KRWG-TV.

The university says it worked closely with the FAA UAS Integration Office and Flight Standards Office to receive the authorization.

NMSU became a designated UAS test site when President Barack Obama signed the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2016 earlier this year.
