Gorilla Kleen LLC, a pressure- and power-washing services provider in Sarasota, Fla., has received a commercial exemption from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate drones.
Specifically, according to the FAA grant, the company is authorized to use the DJI Phantom for “inspections, inventory, photography and monitoring.”
Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), Gorilla Kleen writes in its petition for exemption, “can significantly reduce the risk to workers of falls while inspecting, surveying or monitoring work environments and progress.”
The sUAS will be able to collect data on “hard-to-access work areas,” as well as “inventory the hazards” and play a part in establishing “proper work protocol and protections prior to entering the work environment.”
The company notes that all operations will take place “over private or controlled-access property with the property owner’s prior consent and knowledge.”
