DroneSmartX, a UAV as a Service company, has developed the UAV SmartHub, a system that enables users to connect to smart sensors on the ground and send back data directly to a cloud platform.

According to the company, which is based at the University of Central Florida’s business center in Kissimmee, Fla., the UAV SmartHub attaches to many types of commercial-grade drones. DroneSmartX says the system combines UAV as a Service with the Internet of Things in order to make drones smarter.

The platform collects data from sources such as Bluetooth, passive and active radio-frequency identification (RFID), GPS, and other sensors; processes the data; and delivers it in real time back to the user via cloud platform.

Ideal applications include agriculture, energy, construction, oil and gas, and warehouse inventory. According to DroneSmartX, the SmartHub can apply tags to thousands of items in minutes for inventory checks.

As part of its mission of offering a “complete ground, aerial, mobile and wearable solution,” the company has also developed Web and mobile apps for keeping track of the data, as well as a 3D-printed RFID Backpack, which is built for the DJI Inspire and Matrice 100 drones.
