The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) is urging the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to allow limited unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations prior to the finalization of the small UAS rule.

In a letter to the FAA, AUVSI asks the agency to permit small UAS operations in largely unpopulated areas.

AUVSI also requests that ‘the FAA to stick to its newest deadline for publication of the small UAS notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) and to make the NPRM a top priority for 2014,’ according to a post on the association's website.

AUVSI notes that the FAA plans to publish the small UAS rule in November, ‘almost four years late.’

AUVSI's post can be found here, and the full letter can be found here.
